Repertoire and interpretation. Concertos, sonatas, and Bach Suites, studied in the context of the great performance traditions.
Audition preparation. Repertoire selection, orchestral excerpts, pre-screening recordings, and mock auditions.
Orchestral leadership. Section and principal skills, drawn from my years as a member and leadership positions in the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonia, Juilliard Orchestra and Opera, Peabody Symphony and Opera, Music Academy of the West Orchestra and Opera.
The body and the mind. Injury-prevention technique, Baduanjin movement and breathing, and performance psychology, so students can play at full intensity for decades.

Pacific Music Festival Orchestra under Michael Tilson Thomas and Christoph Eschenbach, at Suntory Hall in Tokyo and in Sapporo. Takemitsu's Dorian Horizon, performed with the composer in attendance. How to begin. Advanced students begin with a full lesson that doubles as an assessment. We'll discuss your goals, timelines and repertoire, and map out a plan. Lessons are 60 minutes, weekly, at the Markham studio or online.
